Tonsilloliths Bad Breath Balls

----- ------

Big or Large Tonsillolith Bad breath can come from deep in the back of the throat when tonsilloliths become trapped in the crevices of the tonsils. These small smelly white balls (can also be yellow, beige or large) are clusters of food particles, sulfur producing bacteria, dead cells and mucus secretions that build up and become trapped.

What are the Symptoms Of Tonsil Stones

  • The first symptoms of Tonsilloliths are a feeling of something being stuck in the back of the throat.
  • A chronic cough or sneezing which may loosen and reveal the presence of calcified stones for the very first time.
  • These clusters of white bumps create a need to constantly clear the throat.

Getting Rid Of Tonsil Stones

Little Or Small Tonsillolith Healthcare professionals recommend removing these pesky white bumps with

a waterpik. The jet streams of water from the pik can apply enough pressure to dislodge the stones from tonsil crevices. You must be careful not to apply to much water pressure so that sensitive tissue do not become damaged.

The tonsillectomy a more radical solution but may be a more likely option for those with frequent bouts of tonsillitis, throat infections and problem tonsil stones.

The tonsils are a part of the body’s immune system helping filter bacteria and virus.

This is one of the reasons that some physician’s will only advise tonsillectomy as a last resort for removing tonsil stones.

Acidophilus has been used to break down and prevent future lumps.

Tonsilloliths can be serious, but are more often a source of embarrassment because of bad breath odor. One good whiff of the awful rotten egg odor that comes from mashing one of these  white smelly lumps can really get your attention.

Common Causes Of Tonsilloliths

As a general rule, tonsil stones can occur with any condition that creates excess mucus in the back of the throat. Such as:

  • Recurring attacks of tonsillitis or inflammation of the tonsils
  • Sinusitis
  • Throat infections
  • Post Nasal Drip
  • Hay Fever
  • Colds
  • Acid Reflux

The Connection Between Allergies And Tonsil Stones

One of the leading causes of Tonsilloliths is post nasal drip. Exposure to allergens will often trigger allergy attacks which lead to a build up of the bacteria that causes excess mucus in the throat, nasal and sinus passages.

Hay Fever is an example of allergies caused by seasonal allergens like airborne pollen from trees, flowers, grass and weed.

Watch what you eat if you have known food allergies as it can be helpful in preventing symptoms.

Read product labels for food additives and preservatives that can trigger an allergic reaction. Remember that some food allergies can be life threatening leading to anaphylactic shock and even death. Although, it is not a typical reaction to most allergens, it is worth mentioning because death can occur in a matter of minutes making a quick medical emergency response time crucial. Symptoms include but are not limited to:

  • Wheezing
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Hives
  • Hypotension (drop in blood pressure)
  • Vomiting
